seniors friendly – 9th july
We were invited to take 10 pairs, and would have, had it not been for prior engagements – holidays – Dr appointments and possibly being on a Thursday didn’t help! Anyway 7 pairs did take up the challenge, arrived well before tee off time of 12 noon (our team sheet was for 11am) plenty of time for coffee and bacon rolls.
This was the first time for a number of the team to play at Cardigan including yours truly and I can confirm we were impressed. The course was in first class condition, the greens were superb (quite fast), you could easily lose balls if you strayed off the fairways, the ruff was RUFF and the gorse was thick. Having said that I only lost 4 or 5 balls, my average for a round. I made a point of saying (to Keith, the Captain) that Cardigan Golf Club & Course was now one of my favourites and top of my list to visit again soon.
The game was played in perfect weather conditions warm with a slight cooling breeze, the result of the seven pairings Cardigan 5 ½ to 1 ½ Derllys. The remaining Cardigan team split and played for us and them each with a win – Final score 6 ½ to 2 ½
This weeks “mention in despatches” must include ERIC DAVIES not only celebrated his 65th birthday but with his partner John Rees, had the only win – well done both and HAPPY BIRTHDAY Eric.
I must mention, (if you can forget the game for a moment) take a little time and take in the views they really are very nice. So is the Club House quite impressive/spacious
The after match meal was also very nice, the sweet/pudding was exceptional Bread & Butter Pudding, my favourite!!! (Marks 11 out of 10)
After the raffle the Captain said a few words and made a point of saying he hoped next years Captain would continue with the friendly’s ( I have confirmed with the Hon Sec – Dave Edwards that the same dates for next year is acceptable i.e. 24th June and 8th July 2010 – still on a Thursday – sorry)
