seniors friendly – 27th july
Due to persistent bad weather, it looked for a while that the match would be cancelled but by late morning the green keeper reports “the top 9 would be playable by 12.30” tee off time. (No Buggies though) “bottom 9 still uncertain” – to be advised!
With ‘no buggies’ available, the team sheet was changed somewhat, dropping two of their players and two of ours, some reshuffling and we are left with 7 pairs each.
In anticipation that the bottom 9 would remain closed, the groups were split, teeing off the 6th and 1st and play the top 9 twice – as it turned out, the weather was kind to us, a sunny and warm breeze made the course “perfect to play”. There were reports of “jammy play” and ‘if only’ – six groups in and its all square (our best result of the year!), all resting on the last pairing Rick & Les B playing against Gordon & Fred (Fred enjoys playing at Derllys!) – Final score Cilgwyn 4 Derllys 3
Well done lads – give yourselves a pat on the back.
After a very nice meal and a raffle in the clubhouse and a brief speech – it was agreed to do this all over again next year. (Dates confirmed with Hugh Loader)
The next Friendly and unfortunately the last will be at Home to Haverfordwest on the
3rd August – perhaps we can finish with a Win watch this space.
